Transport

Humans move around a lot and many of us rely heavily on public transport. The upkeep of stations is made difficult by nesting birds especially when they won’t let you get on with your job and nobody likes their morning croissant pinched by an opportunistic seagull. Take a look at our examples below to see how we have helped deter Gulls from the stations in 2 major Scottish cities. Think of us when you are next passing through these stations and if you would like to learn more about what we do, please get in touch.

Aberdeen Station – Aberdeen, UK

The Problem:
We were approached by Aberdeen Station who were having problems with Gulls roosting on their extensive glassed roof. Concerned about damage caused to the roof and heath and safety issues we set about planning a system that would provide the best solution to their problem. One major hurdle to overcome was the lack of power to the roof so here is what we did.

Our Approach:
After some consideration, we came up with a design for a solar-powered system containing 4 R:Falcons and custom engineered mounts. Keen to ensure the system provided the desired effect before purchase, Aberdeen used our rental option to evaluate over a 20 month period. The success led to the outright purchase of the system with the rental falcons being replaced with new ones. Now staff can carry out repair work on the roof without the risk of being attacked by gulls.

The Solution:
4 Solar R:Falcons Systems

Waverley Station – Edinburgh, UK

The Problem:

Waverley Station has gone through significant upgrades in the last 10 years, including a brand new glass roof installed by Balfour Beatty. The new roof was barely completed when it had to be cleaned due to mess caused by Gulls and pigeons. Cleaning extensive roof glazing is a hazardous and expensive job. So to reduce costs and avoid health and safety issues, they looked to Robop for a solution.

Our Approach:
Our solution, 2 mains powered birds on tripod mounts. Originally installed in 2007 these Falcons have been keeping the roof clear of bird mess. In 2018 2 new Falcons were added to the pack.

The Solution:
Original system: 2 R:Falcon AC (Mains Power) and 2 Tripod stands.
Upgraded to include: 2 further R:Falcon AC, a post mount and a pneumatic Pole.
